Has anyone else bought the new Hoffman Challenge fabric? What do you think? Mine finally came--I find it pretty, but quite uninspiring, at least so far. If you're thinking about ordering the Hancock's of Paducah pack of fat quarter coordinates, be advised that they are all busy multi-colored prints, several of them the same fabric in a different colorway, only a few tone on tones, (all three green), no variety in value or in type of pattern. I wish I'd saved my money.
Photo as requested. I aim to please.
I bought a yard of the HC fabric and figured I could use my stash fabrics for anything else I needed.
ReplyDeleteIt is incredibly busy (even for my tastes) and I think it is going to be "challenging" to work with too. I wanted them to get over the batik/tropical streak but I don't think this is any better!
You were very wise--I also have always used my stash or shopped for what I need, but I do like to have the coordinates too as an additional option. (This is known as stash building, I guess.) But I can't see these fabrics as very useful at all, and am annoyed at Hancocks, not Hoffman. I plan to write them about it also.
ReplyDeleteSorry that you didn't like your fabrics - I always call that "internet surprise shopping". Maybe you can use some of them in a string quilt, a tone-on-tone scrappy quilt, postcards... hard to say since I haven't seen the fabrics.
ReplyDeleteCheers!

I haven't even seen it. Couldn't you add a picture?
ReplyDeleteOK - now that I've seen it (thanks for the photo...) it looks like a soft-doll sculptures dream come true.... something I used to do before a baby! Ohhh, I used to love making individual tiny little fingers, etc. - I see nymphs and fairies holding butterflys - surrounded by tropical flowers... so even though a quilter might not like this fabric, I think that the soft sculpture part of the contest will probably have lots to work with.
ReplyDeleteCheers!

Oh dear, I think it is yucky.
ReplyDeleteI guess that's what makes it a challenge. Good luck!
Gee it's bad in a different way from the challenge fabric I just got from the Aussie challenge. I just posted it. Check it out! Maybe we should combine the 2. They're both horrible! Like Allie said, yukky!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing.
I haven't gotten around to buying the fabric yet. I don't know what I think about it--yet. I had some ideas, but....it's challenging alright.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads-up about the coordinates.
I passed it up when I saw how small the scale is.... (I had a brilliant idea from what I saw on the Hoffman Challenge page, but in real life it wo't work....) I too was so unimpressed with the coordinates....
ReplyDeleteMy only idea is one of those reverse appliques that uses two pieces of fabric - like a Hawaiian or Tahitian quilt.... But I am not going to bother....
Well, there's certainly a lot of scope when it comes to choosing coordinating colors, huh?! Very busy is right!
