Moving On

I'm back to the Hoffman--maybe I see some light at the end of the tunnel. It wasn't a creative breakthrough though, but new fabric. There's something wrong about that.

For full disclosure, here is what I had last week. I don't like it; it's too much dark, and there is too much stark contrast between dark and light.

Here is what I'm doing about changing:

I've added another medium value fabric (this was what I had been unable to find), and also a busier dark in the center). I think this may work better. There are still decisions to be made about the center and the outer rim, not to mention the square that will hold the circle. I think I'm ready to do more stitching, but that's what I thought Friday! I am not pleased with the way this is working out, even now, but I decided to be brave and post anyway. You have to stick you neck out sometimes.

And how cute is this!

We stopped by yesterday to watch the twins eat oatmeal, and then left cold, sunny Chicago to return to cold, snowy home. We definitely live on the wrong side of Lake Michigan.

  2. I am used to you being critical about your work, so I discount that. I know your process is sound and that your result will be stupendous.

And those twins...nothing more beautiful on God's green--or cold and snowy--earth.....thanks for that heartwarming picture!

  3. Adorable twins!
I think you are getting somewhere with your Hoffman, I like the addition of the medium fabrics. I suppose the reason your finished pieces look so good is because you take such pains.

  5. My first thought was how lovely I think this is going to be and then I was totally distracted by the cuteness. Absolutley adorable babies. Two times the cute!
The big difference between how you work and how I work(besides how elegant your work is) is this. I don't go the extra mile and that's what makes your stuff so great and my stuff so much....ahhhh..in the closet...ummm unfinished.

  7. Golly, what more can be said about your quilt and your grandbabies? It looks to me like you're on the right track with the quilt ... you just could not abandon those fabulous fish. The babies are precious.

  9. I like your fussy cutting idea, and the shift in color values you decided on. Can't wait to see how this turns out. And what wittle sweetie pies! Remind me of Donald Ducks nephews, except missing one.

  10. Ahh, Lake Effect! I remeber it well! Lived in Muskegon for 1/2 my life.

I can't quite understand what it is you're doing on the project, but I have complete faith that it will be beautiful when you get where you're going, because they always are when you're done. I do like your water lillies. It's one of those smells from Michigan that I miss, but can still recall quite clearly.A white water lilly with the bright yellow center, on a hot sunny day at the cottage.

    The babies are SO CUTE!!!
