I spent a day and a half at this show. It caused me to do lots of thinking about quilting styles, not all of it pleasant or positive. I'm mulling over how or if to post some of these thoughts, but in the meantime here are a couple of big winners. As a White Glove Lady posted in their area, I examined them in detail. Both are a text book in detail and intricate workmanship.
Best of Show: String of Pearls by Mary Buvia
Excellence in Workmanship Hand quilted: Irish Cream by Linda Roy
And here are a couple of detail shots:
Most of the raised areas on Linda Roy's quilt are not trapunto, but applique. It's an exquisite piece of work.
I love the Irish Cream quilt! I love the white, the quilting, the appliqué (which I would have thought to be trapunto)! It certainly is an example of Excellence in Workmanship.
ReplyDeleteWow. Wow. And again, WOW!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the excellent pictures.
ReplyDeleteThe B of S is a little too much for me...though I love the concept of it. The Irish Cream is flat out amazing.
I am eager to hear your thoughts re the quilts, show, etc...I don't care if they are ornery...speak your truth!
I think Mary Buvia made the cat quilt that i liked so much last year. This one is nice too! (stylistically similar.)
ReplyDeleteDid you see the taupe quilt that I poseted off of flickr earlier today? (Did you get a better photo?)
What beautiful work. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI would like to hear your thoughts about the quilting, good or bad. these are fabulous!
ReplyDeleteI have to admit I'm intrigued you were so moved as an artist, that the Show was so influential there's something to contemplate.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't get over these photos. String of Pearls is so lovely. It reminds me of my grandmother. And the hand quilting is WOW! on Irish Cream.
Amazed by Love, *karendianne.
