Out of the Basement to all of You: Happy New Year!
I'm thinking about reorganizing this mess as a New Year's Resolution, but am still at the thinking stage. I actually did do some straightening and sweeping this morning, but still this would qualify as a "before" picture in anyone's book. If there is ever a different "after" look, you'll be the first to know. Actually, although there's lots of stuff, the space is functional, and I do know where everything is.
As for other goals: I don't think I have any clear ones. The ones that do come to mind are rather negative. For example, except for the Hoffman (maybe), I don't intend to enter any challenges unless they let me do something I'd want to do anyway. At my age, time becomes more precious, and I don't want to use it on something that seems pointless to me. I think I challenge myself, and challenges from outside only cause pressure I don't need.
After I finish my current project, I will have satisfied my need to do a complicated traditional pieced project, so maybe I'll go back to something less traditional. Or not. I guess I'm resolving not to resolve, just do what feels right at any given moment. I do think it's necessary to keep working, keep creating, but I just don't want to be too goal oriented.
Of course, like everyone else, I do have a few UFO's, and lots of fabric to use!
I wish everyone reading a happy, healthy, creative new year. Thank you for all the inspiration, support, and enjoyment reading your posts and comments has provided me.

Kay,
Really, your studio isn't that bad. Looks like a nice big space with good light :) Happy creating in 2009! I so completely agree that you should do the work that makes you happy. Jen
your basement looks great. i always imagine basements to be a bit dingy and gloomy (coming from a land of basement-less houses) but i wish we had one! (and it looks about as tidy as our house ;) )
Im not going challenges this year - im just doing my own thing. resolving not to resolve - thats a good way of putting it!
Kay, you lucky duck! Look at all that space!
Happy new year!
Libby
Oh I don't think that looks to bad at all. It looks very creative friendly!!
I'm glad to see where your creations come to life. But what I want to know is how many times your toes have stubbed on those cement blocks that prop your table to a good working height? If it were me, my toes would be a bloody mess.
I think I agree with you on the challenges--maybe they have run their course with us (except for the Hoffman).
Happy New Year to you!
Boy looking at your studio is fun! I love seeing the new machine, the fantastic window you have in your room, the stars and the plastic food bins (great tip). I like the ribbons, too! Those feel good.
As for challenges, pressure and doing what feels good - I do know that my health is much better off when I'm going with a flow of my own, even if I have 200 UFO's floating around. (I don't.) It's the effort and the process that feeds my Spirit and I know that boosts my health. Truly.
Happy New Year, Kay. ~ Really Big Fan, *karendianne. (ps: word vfy is warmerfu go figure?)
Your studio looks wonderful to me! Yes, time is precious and wasting time on challenges that don't really appeal is a drag, but challenging yourself has such rewarding possibilities.
Happy New Year, Kay!
I agree with you totally on the challenges. I'm still deciding about the Hoffman, but other than that, I have plenty of ideas to challenge myself with.
Have a joyful and creative 2009!
A little advice from another Kay!
Every time I reorganize things I have a had time figuring out where the new place is I put them.
Sometimes functional is better than guest ready!

Wow, looks to me like a place a girl could have a BARREL of fun in!! All that space.... Funny what caught our eyes: for me it's those stacks of r/w stars. Jealousy, get thee away from me! And the only challenges I'm interested in are the ones I give myself--I'm the only one I care to compete with!
