Nellie of
Nellie's Needles sent me this photo of one of my quilts displayed at the Smoky Mountain Quilt Show in Nashville, Tennessee this weekend. It was an unexpected pleasure to see it, and to know that it looks straight when hanging. A bed-size quilt looks so different on the bed than it does on display. I made this quilt about five years ago using blocks from Alex Anderson's book
Simply Stars, adding a few other star blocks. The variety made this fun to do.
Nellie will be posting more pictures from the show next week, something well worth looking for. Thanks, Nellie!
Wow! Nice that Nellie was able to share your quilt with you since you couldn't be there. It is, of course, gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is truly beautiful. I love those colors.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous quilt! Your work makes me want to sit down and make a traditional bed quilt. It's been far too long, that's for sure!
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome. This show in Knoxville ended today. The quilts that I've yet to post about are the one awarded the special ribbons I was in charge of creating. The Smoky Mountain Quilt Guild website will have slide show of all the entries pretty soon.
ReplyDeleteOh Kay! See I didn't know the back story with this quilt. I guess I didn't have the pleasure of knowing you when you created this beauty. If I had, I surely would have placed this at the top. Plus, I would have purchased Alex Anderson's book. I might have learned something.
ReplyDeleteThese colors are so lovely. They go with me and my house. (recall the pumpkin walls?)
Thanks for sharing my friend. I guess this moves up a rung on the "favorites" from out of the basement. Not everything can be in first place and then there's the elephant piece. It's so hard being me... heh!
What a great Star Sampler quilt! You really do stars well; both this and your red star quilt are super!
ReplyDeleteThat star quilt is simply amazing!
ReplyDeleteThat is a fabulous quilt. Those stars are not easy and they look great! Plus, I love the colors:)
ReplyDeleteI would not have thought this was a "bed quilt". It is so striking and to see it hanging on display at the show in this pic, very much makes me see it as a work of art. Bet it is absolutely yummy on a bed, too, though! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous, Kay. I will watch for Nellie's other pictures of the show. I remember last year it was quite good.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful quilt. There's a lot to be said for stars and a traditional style. What a lovely surprise for you to see your beauty on display
