Ho Hum

Must get motivated.  Must get motivated.

This will not help much.

Here's the latest Hoffman Challenge fabric.  First off, fabric with roses is not my style, but the other problem is the disappointingly sleazy quality of this fabric.  It looks more like a Walmart knockoff than a Hoffman--the weave is coarse, and the colors don't have the usual sharp definition. At $10.50 a yard the high cost of cotton is really hitting home.  To be fair, there seems to be a white over print over the images which may have something to do with the blurred look, but the general effect isn't very successful.

I do have an idea, but I'll need to get motivated to start.  That seems to be the hard part for me lately.

  1. I agree! I really wanted to enter the challenge this time but I keep looking at that fabric and shaking my head! Maybe I'll buy myself a little piece of it and sleep with it under my pillow for a while...

  2. Yak! And I like roses too-I have seen some gorgeous rose fabrics but this isn't in that category in my opinion. Looks pillow-casey but maybe a broderie perse deal might work. Good luck with it-if anyone can do something with that I bet you can.

  3. Sophie and I saw it (in a glance) at the quilt show. She thought it had my name written all over it. I'm not in the mood anymore for the HC; but, I am glad to see they have moved away from the asian prints. Those were getting boring as were/are all the entries made from that fabric.

I hope you can pull something clever off with this fabric. Talk about out of your comfort zone!

  4. Every time I think about the 2012 HC, I think "maybe." And then I see the fabric, and I gag. ugh. I haven't touched it yet, as I haven't seen it in the fabric. I'd hoped that it was my computer making it look so unappealing.

    *sigh*

I guess that's why they call it a Challenge..

  5. Ho hum indeed! It looks so old fashioned, but without the charm of old fashioned prints. I hope inspiration strikes and you think up something you're excited about.

  6. I've always wondered about the Hoffman challenges. It is as if they choose the most unlikely fabric possible. Certainly challenges the creative juices!

  7. I was just thinking about the Hoffman the other day. I'm not keen on the fabric either, but I guess that's why it's a challenge.

  8. I don't mean to post an earthquake but I actually kinda like it. What I DONT LIKE is crappy quality fabrics which are seeping into the market. The Marcus fabrics I like are like crap. The fabrics are no longer better than they used to be. Talk about dumbing (sp?) down!

  9. The petals up close look like brush strokes. Can you forget that they are flowers and use them in some other way?

I hate crappy fabric and it sure looks like that in the close up. Challenges should be challenges but it does not mean poor quality fabric is part of it.
