WIP Wednesday

I have sewn together my class project, choosing the more realistic of the ideas I was playing with. I'm trying not to second guess myself about this. Now I'm mulling over how to finish it. I could either finish it simply with no border at all, just a tight close-up effect of the flowers, but I'm also auditioning a few fabrics for a border of some kind. I think I want the plain finish, as it's more dramatic, but I really love the way the batik on the right looks with the design. There's plenty of time to think about this, because I'm now starting the very tedious process of marking, layering, and quilting the Hoffman challenge quilt. Since it's very traditional, I'm just doing a close grid in the center and parallel curved lines in the border. This is something I can do without problem (knock on wood), and should fit the design. I must say that after a break from the Hoffman, it doesn't grate on me as much as it did--not not quite so Awfully Aqua.

I like it, I am leaning towards a more assymetrical border... (not sure the fabrics, or anything - more a gut feeling)

It looks like you have been busy - new banner and all on you blog...

I'm working out the same details with my Hoffman piece...border? No border? I like the border colors you've selected here, but I can see what you mean by the drama of no border.

Hey, that green quilt in your sidebar--I have one very similar. http://home-and-garden.webshots.com/photo/1046080526038881489kAlgns

Ooooooo...that pink/purple batik! It mirrors the flower colors so perfectly. If you desire to keep the close-up effect of the flowers how about using it as a very narrow binding? Or, a piping between the piece and the binding. I think having that pink frame the piece somehow would keep the focus within the piece by referring the eye right back to the flowers.

My first impression was that you were right about leaving it without the border, but I really think Nellie's suggestion for a narrow piping or binding of the pink would be a great look to keep the drama.

I'm so glad you arranged the flowers this way!
I like the idea of the assymetrical border, too....but whatever you decide is going to be great.
