Does anyone know any tips about appliqueing sheers (net, tulle) to a quilt top? What kind of machine stitching, how do you mark the pattern on the sheer, what kind of thread, etc? I know Libby Lehman has done this, but I have the old edition of her book, and there's nothing in there about it. I'm assuming that you use zig zag or satin stitch with a stabilizer, and the color of thread would depend on the effect you want. I'd appreciate any info anyone has.

I figured out how to cut an accurate shape--trace shape on dull side of freezer paper, iron freezer paper to tulle with WARM iron using parchment paper as press cloth, cut around shape, peel off freezer paper, and there you are. (Reverse the shape if necessary, but mine is symetrical, thank goodness.) This seems obvious actually, but I was afraid the tulle might melt.
That's a smart tip about cutting the shape with freezer paper. I have fused tulle, you have to use a very light fusible (Wonder Under is good) and a layer of parchment or Teflon between the tulle and the iron.
I love the freezer paper method for cutting the tulle. I've discovered a wonderful product called Misty Fuse that I use with tulle and organza. I use a zig zag stitch in either invisible or a color depending on my design. I couldn't get along without parchment paper and a Teflon pressing sheet for all the fusing I do.
