Yesterday I received the Quilt of Valor that I made and Deb Geyer quilted. As you can see, she did a terrific job. The variegated thread looks wonderful on that red check fabric.
The three other stars are for a special Quilt of Valor that Debra Spincic is putting together for display in the Houston Quilt Show. Yesterday I pieced three 8-pointed stars. Practice does make perfect I think, since the blue and purple one, my third attempt, has a neater center, and doesn't have the strange pucker in the fabric that the red one does. When you read not to use steam to block a block, believe it!
So yesterday was a big day for my Quilts of Valor projects. Today I plan to spend time putting away some of the fabric I have pulled out in the last few days! A photo of my "studio" would be good for a laugh. Sorry I didn't think of it earlier.
WOWSER!! That red star is fabulous! Love what you can do with a stripe.
ReplyDeletePS The star that Deb quilted is vv cool, but I was referring to the last star you posted--the feathery stripe.
ReplyDeleteGreat fabric, isn't it? But those bias edges are definitely a pain, and DON"T USE STEAM!
ReplyDeleteIronically, after posting this, I corrected the less-than-perfect center on the green and purple star. This was easy, but when I went to press it, the iron was set on steam (who did that?) and immediately little puckers appeared. Fortunately, this one I caught in time.
ReplyDeleteThat bottom star is SMASHING!
ReplyDeleteThese are all wonderful, Kay...
ReplyDeleteThanks. These have been fun. I'm not at all a precise, careful person and doing a tricky block feels almost like a spiritual discipline--I can make myself take care if I have to, and it's very satisfying.
ReplyDeleteI love that red star and I think I have that fabric too. Let's see what becomes of this project!!
ReplyDeleteThose stars are incredible. I had fun making mine. I love the one at the bottom. I was amazed at the different things the different patterns in the fabric did.
ReplyDeleteOh yes! THe red is my favorite! Lovely! I can't wait to see them all together!
