Thanks!

Just a few Thanksgiving pictures. We had a quiet day, even though it started with a two and a half hour drive to Evanston.

Our host and hostess pose proudly,

and chef Karl displays his masterpiece.

Unfortunately, the pride was short-lived because when he started to carve red juice ran out! There was much ranting and fuming and gnashing of teeth, since at this point everyone was starving. But the cut pieces finished cooking quickly, and here the refreshed diners take a break before dessert.

Friday was actually more peaceful and pleasant. We did some very low key walking around downtown, which was quiet because everyone must have been at the malls, and in the afternoon watched Master and Commander on the large screen TV. Here the men are doing a few little chores, including putting up the ND flag for the game Saturday.

I've always found Thanksgiving stressful, not sure why, but this one was pleasant, perhaps with less emphasis on preparation on my end than usual. My busy son and daughter-in-law probably don't feel that way, but after all, it's their turn!

I find any event that I have to host - very stressful. This year was so small, however, that it didn't bother me. I've started to anticipate the stress of Christmas, and I have to wonder if this doesn't happen to everyone. I can't imagine it stressing my grandmother, but it might have. I suspect now that until about 15 years ago when my parents started coming over here, my mother felt the stress, too.

This was the first year I've had to do Thanksgiving all on my own. I started a day ahead making as much as possible, but it didn't help as much as I thought it would. It was still a mad dash at the end to get everything finalized. Thankfully or sadly we didn't have any guests which would have sent me over the edge.

I am glad your Thanksgiving was not stressful. I wonder why we make holidays so stressful. I am going to try to go with the flow for Christmas this year.

What a nice couple your son and DIL make!
I've had that happen with my turkey before...it is embarrassing! Glad you solved the problem quickly and got to eat.
Master & Commander is a great movie...my husband has read the entire 20 volume Patrick O'Brian series twice in a row. Took him 2 years....

Thanks for your visit to my blog this afternoon. I need more visitors' comments like yours. I need and appreciate the reassurance that my holiday planning is really of no consequence in the big picture. I do know it, of course, but the pressure to perform is outa control. Maybe I'm adding to it, I don't know. I need to take a chill pill, I do know that. thanks again - REALLY.. please visit again.. early and often!:)

Timing a Thanksgiving dinner takes experience. Tell your son to jot down some notes so next year he will have something to look at to refresh his memory. Even a timetable is a good idea.

This year the sweet potato casserole didn't take 40 minutes like the recipe said so I made a note of it. Next year we will know to make it the night before and add the topping to bake the last 10 minutes on the actual day.

It's all in learning to cook.
