Christmas Quilts

I don't do much decorating, just the tree, some real greenery, and the Christmas quilts. I have two. The first one is an Alex Anderson design, very scrappy. I've actually made three versions of this quilt: one I sold, one I gave to my sister, and this one I kept. It was a futile attempt to use up scraps. As you can see, Florabelle gives it the seal of approval.

The second one is also scrappy, although less so. It's an early quilt. Unfortunately I don't have a label, but it must have been about 2000. My husband gave me Quilt-Pro for Macs for Christmas, and I used it to design this quilt. It was fun to play with the alternate blocks and create a path of color across the quilt, seeming to extend the star lines. I also tried for transparency with the red and gold, not totally successful, but not bad. I still like this quilt, although the quilting in particular leaves much to be desired. I stitched in the ditch on a puffy batt, and I wouldn't do that now.

Funny how our quilting style grows... I have older quilts that are so not what I would do now. (If I were doing anything besides pulling fabric now...)

Beautiful cat, she accents that quilt well.

Both are lovely Christmas quilts. Great rich holiday colors.
We certainly do change and improve our techniques as the years of quilting go by. I shudder when I look at some of my early ones.

I love the earlier work -- I think it keeps our egos in check! I sofa snuggle under one of my first quilts that I made for my "decorated" bedroom in the 1980s--mauve no less. I had to chuckle to myself the other day to see Wes with it over his lap while watching TV. If he knew the history of the quilt, he would have immediately thrown it off!

I guess im many ways quilts do show our personal history; that's a good thing!

I especially like your Christmas quilts-excellent with the red leather chair!

Very nice. It's interesting to look back at early quilts but it's sobering when you look at them technically. Mine anyway are so full of mistakes. I guess it shows progress.

Both those quilts are dynamite, and it looks as if Kitty approves. I LOVE that red leather chair. I want it.

Your quilts are both beautiful. I like your sister's idea of sabotaging the oven for the holidays. Great excuse!

What a sweet girl! Those quilts aren't too bad either! I love my earlier quilts, especially the scrap ones. Besides, who doesn't love a bunch of blunted star points?:):)
