An Interlude

Wrapping gifts, baking cookies, visiting grandchildren, cleaning--very little fiber content to show. I made some Christmas postcards for an exchange, but can't show them yet, and yesterday I printed photos on the computer to make little photo albums for Aidan and Conor. That's it for creativity. Today's goal is to make room for the Christmas tree, vacuum, and de-clutter enough to decorate.

In the back of my mind I'm thinking about the basket quilt. I have begun the alternate blocks, but am wondering if that large square in the center is so prominent that the secondary design may take over. Replacing it raises the question of what to use instead. There's plenty of time to think about it while I do the Christmas jobs.

How using about your border fabric for the big square center square? maybe a butterfly in each? That would interrupt the strong blue pattern that's going on now.

I like that strong pattern personally. My opinion is that the leaves in the basket are pretty strong and that once you see them togther it may balance out the blue nine patches (or whatever you call them).

Have fun decorating and good luck with de cluttering.

All I really see is the blue 9patch which is a shame with all the work you are doing on the baskets. If you need a half dozen butterflies for the idea Nellie suggested, let me know and I'll embroider them for you. I can do them directly on your fabric or as an applique.

Huh. I didn't think so until you pointed it out which is NOT the first time THAT has happened. I just went back and looked again. I'm sticking with the clarity in my perspective before you put the virus there. Hee! (trying to be funny)

I can relate to all the extra holiday work and chores, when meanwhile you have a project in your mind!

I like this as it is. But if the big blue is too distracting to you, I would replace it with a lighter valued fabric, even a solid white. I think a busier fabric, or a darker fabric in its place may cause you the same uneasiness--- that it detracts from the baskets. But I, myself, like this the way it is. I still notice the beautiful baskets, first and foremost.

Maybe when you come back to this project the solution will be clear. I can't decide whether or not I think the secondary pattern is too dominant.

If your holiday prep takes as long as mine, you'll have plenty of time to think about it.

I think when you get them all together the block design will truly just be a background and the basket blocks will pop out. Letting it sit and thinking about it almost always makes the perfect design choice clear in your mind. I love it so far.
