A Poem for the Winter Solstice

I Heard a Bird Sing

I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.
A magical thing
And sweet to remember.

'We are nearer to Spring
Than we were in September,"
I heard a bird sing
In the dark of December.

That's a good thought to keep in mind during these cold dark days. Thanks for sharing.

I like that. Hope spring gets here early this year, and we have a short winter!

I love this, Kay.

I haven't shared this because of course there's not been reason to and who would? I've been back into reading poetry for the past couple of months. I've missed it. Although it isn't always easy. I picked up a used book and it's written in the margins. Someone was studying and so I'm learning with some poems. I consider it a real treasure actually. I sometimes read the poems outloud, too.

Lovely poem. I think I'll be checking the birdseed and suet this morning - I want to encourage a chorus in my backyard!

How very lovely, Kay! Thanks for sharing. Yesterday we bought a 20 lb sack of sunflower seeds and managed to get all of our feeders up between freezes. Word spread in bird land and now bird song abounds!
Merry Christmas!
