Tulips, Art, and a Rock Slide
When I showed the postcard on the left to my husband, he said, "What is that? Is that a mango?" Since this is a photograph of a tulip, printed on fabric and fused to painted fabric, I can't think my drawing skills are at fault this time. Then I showed him the other one: "Now that's a tulip. I can tell that's a tulip!" Isn't it odd that a grade-school level stamp of a tulip looks more like a tulip than the real thing does? That says something profound about art, I think, but I'm not sure what. Of maybe it just says something about Bob.
And speaking of art, I am now on Plan B for Interpret This. As often happens, I had the idea when I was half awake this morning. I'm hoping it will look as good on paper and cloth as it did in my drowsy brain.
too funny. if it's any consolation, I knew it was a tulip!
ReplyDeleteI knew it was a tulip also. Immediately.
ReplyDeleteI knew that they both were tulips, but I do "see" more tulip in the grade school version. (& I can see a mango as well...)
ReplyDeleteBoth are lovely.
Too funny. I love the real tulip so much better but my Bob would be the same I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteI have not started my Interpretation.
I have my idea but have been working on something else and have had no time to start. Hope my idea turns out or I am in big trouble.
I don't for the life of me know how anyone could mistake that for anything but a tulip, but I very well think it may be a gender thing! There are probably lots of men who don't know the difference between a mango and a tulip (laughing hysterically!)
ReplyDeleteI will be looking forward to your IT piece!
What a funny story! I like both of your tulip cards!
ReplyDeleteFor what it's worth I looked at it and immediately thought, what a beautiful tulip. Your husband seems to be in the minority here.
ReplyDeleteMango! Honestly:) I do think our brains are programmed to recognize shapes in a certain way. The suggestions of what something is may be different from person to person but overall, certain shapes and features help us make the leap to what something might be. Unless you are Bob or Rich! I knew that was a tulip!
ReplyDeleteTulip, definitely!
ReplyDeleteLOL!! Thanks for the laugh this morning!!
ReplyDeleteMaybe he was hungry? Personally, I can't see the mango likeness at all, but then I've never seen one in real life. My Sarge (who has seen both mangos and tulips!) sees a tulip, too. Ah well, the essence of art is in how we see it. Both are lovely!
ReplyDeleteHusbands' reactions to our quilting work never fail to entertain us. Just another perspective, I guess. (but one good for a laugh)
ReplyDeleteI knew this was a tulip, but just today Michael was showing me a picture of an alligator (from his trip to Costa Rica) and it took me a long time to see it. It just looked like a rock, until I made out the face. I sympathize with you dh. Sometimes the brain just won't wrap itself around an image.
ReplyDeleteBoth cards are beautiful.
:0 Sometimes husbands are as amusing as cats! Both postcards are happy and spring-like!
ReplyDeleteI could tell they were both tulips ... and they're both lovely!
