Designing and Decisions

I don't know if I like this stage of a project or not.  Sometimes it's fun--there's a real surge of adrenaline; but then sometimes the decisions just tie me up in knots.

Here's where I am on the joke challenge quilt.  I'm stuck on the background fabric, not able to find exactly what I visualize.  The one on the right seems a bit bright, and also dark enough that having visibility for the center elements may be a problem.  They'll need to be either dark or light, not medium.  The one on the left has a flower sprig, which isn't right for the mood or theme.  I know it is only visible close up, but still it bothers me.  I'm not quite willing to try a couple more fabric shops, but maybe I will.  On the other hand, maybe I'll just say,  "Oh, well," and go with it.  See what I mean about indecision?

This is probably the only post about this quilt since it should be a surprise.  It's hard not to be able to post what you're working on, isn't it?

Yes. Therein lies the irony. You make a blog about quilting and half the time you can't show your stuff..

How interesting to work on a piece and have the border done first!! What an opportunity! FWIW, I like the gold-er fabric better than the pale one.

Yes. Indeed.

I like the lighter value one on the left. Have you considered a green hue is that same light value?

I like the lighter one also. forget about seeing the flower sprig. it will get lost once you start using it in blocks.

You know what, I'm the worse person in the world to comment on something like this but I do show up and read and learn. I learn that I'm not alone. ...and that helps. I love your Blog!

Hmmmm...have you tried the "other side" of the fabrics?

I love those wonky blocks!

I'm feeling much better this year now that I can share WIP on my blog. Challenges definitely eat into available blog material.

I am just sure you want another opinion right? I like that lighter value gold color but I know what you mean about the flower sprigs. Your eyeball will always see them. That border though is perfect for your piece!

I know what you mean too about getting tied up in knots over the decisions. I am especially bunched up when faced with two or three choices that are very similar.

I'm reminded of Debra's Madonna Dilemma. Hate decisions like this, but even if you can't show the work, do tell on your choice!

Good luck sorting out the center background fabric. Whatever you choose, those wonky churn dashes are wonderful.
