Janome MC6600P
I just read a review of this machine in Quiltmaker, and it sounds like something I would like. It has the features I want (large space, fast stitching, needle up and down, adjustable speeds, etc.) and doesn't have a jillion stitches ("only" 163). It's also in my price range. Does anyone know anything about it? I just read one discussion forum that made it sound good, although most of the posters had the older model. I am oh-so-sick of my Viking! I haven't been to look at one yet; before I commit to that much time, I'd like to know a little more. Shopping for a machine is as difficult as shopping for a car. Why should that be? But the pricing policies and unhelpful salespeople are a rant for another day, I guess.

I have the 6500 and it's great! Don't quote me but I think the only big difference in the 6500 and the 6600 is the color of the machine (from purple to blue) and maybe the light. It's probably the best machine Janaome makes (without being a combination embroidery/sewing machine-which is the current rage amongst sewers). I was very hesitant to leave Elna since I had one for 20+ years but I was sold on the Janome right away.
It is definitely a workhorse of a machine. Rian and Barbara C. also have one. Rian got hers just before I did and Barb got hers about the same time I did.
I don't know much about this machine but I have always owned Janomes and absolutely love them. They are well made and very reliable.
The main difference between the 6500 and 6600 is the Accufeed foot on the 6600. I do not have a Janome, but my quilting friends do and swear by them. I have a Viking Sapphire and I regret not buying a 6600.

I own a Janome MC 6500 and absolutely love it. It has a wide bed 9" which is great for quilting and it also came with a perspex extension table which makes it much easier to handle quilts. I've had it for 2yrs now, previous to this i had a Bernina which i hated as it was so noisy. I made myself use the knee lifter and now its automatic and leaves my hands free. The 6500p has the builting walking foot (acufeed) which is the model after mine. I now have 2 Janomes, the 6500 and a lightweight Jem Platinum 5kgs which I take to quilting group.
I don't know anything about any of this EXCEPT that its hard parting with "sums" of money no matter what it is. ...well I mean on a large scale. But I just know you are the kind of person that pretty much always gets it right. I can just tell!

I know nothing about the Janome except that several people who I know have them and absolutely love them. Especially for free motion quilting. Two of those people switched from a bernina(my dream machine)to Janome and are not a bit sorry.
I really came to congratulate you on your Hoffman challenge. Yay You!!
So what did you get, Kay?
I've got Berninas and hopefully they'll last for many years to come. What have you decided on?
