Design Wall

I don't usually post the design wall on Monday, but this week I have something on the wall.  It's the same thing, at about the same stage of completion, that was on the wall last Monday too.  I'm still fighting a messed up sleep schedule and a cold, so haven't been very energetic.

This is five orphan blocks which I am putting together for a service quilt.  After I make some more nine patches, there will be an outer border cut from a panel of alphabet flower blocks, also pink, green, and yellow.  That should bring it up to size for a very feminine lap quilt, or I guess, a crib quilt for a little girl.

And speaking of nine-patches, does anyone else find them hard to make when they're cut from scrappy squares?  (I'm not strip piecing because I want more variety than that allows.)  I don't seem to be able to line up the little pieces accurately, and on a small block the mismatches really show up.

I have the same problem, but I try to go with it more often than not.

Oh how pretty. There's going to be one lucky sweet person to be receiving this precious work. Wow! I'm impressed. Thanks for sharing your Wall.

As for the 9 patches - I'm into those scrappy little nine patches. I prefer that look as opposed to the control of the strip piecing. "Indian Paintbrush" has sweet scrappy nine patches and I loved them. Little 3.5" are perfect me thinks. I'm guessing I'm saying that since I'm not complaining about that I don't have much trouble. I do have to square them up though.

Oops. ...and Be Well!

If I want scrappy 9 patches I still make them from strips but I change the strips more often and make shorter units.

Holler if you want me to quilt this one. I have a stack I am getting ready for fall when the temps drop in the garage (where the mid-arm is located).

I haven't done a scrappy nine patch in a while so I don't recall any problems. My compromise would be to do one row via strip piecing and then just mix and match the different rows:)

Cute quilt too-I do love that border.

the quilt is going to be so beautiful. I know that if I were to try and make a nine patch it would be quite wonky..so your having them just a bit off is amazing to me!!
